Location
Nepal is a small, sovereign independent, beautiful Himalayan kindom of Himalayan Mountain, artistic monument, exotic wildlife and diverse cultures. The kingdom of Nepal covers an area of 1,47,181 square kilometers and streches 145-241 kilometers north to south and 850 kilometers west to east. It is located between India and china with the northern latitude 26°21’-30°26’ N and eastern latitude 80°31’-88°12’ E. Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal.
The country can be divided in three main geographical regions.
A. Himalayan Region (Snow Land): The attitude of this region between 4877m to 8848m. It covers around
15% land of the total area of Nepal. It inculdes 8 of the highest peaks on the world.
B. Mountain Region (High Land): The region covers around 68% of total land area of Nepal.
C. Terai region (Low Land/Plain): It occupies about 17.1% of the total land are of the Nepal.
Area and Geographical Settings
It covers 0.3% land of the world and 0.3 land of the Asian continent. Its area is 1,47,181 square kilometers. Its shape is perpendicular with the east-west length of 850 kilometers, and its north south width is nearly 145-241 kilometers. The northern belt of Nepal lies the Himalayan regions the hill region with fertile valleys in the middle of the narrow stripe of plain terai in the south.
The people and the culture
Nepal has many ethnic groups as varied as its land with their own languages and cultures. In the Kathmandu valley are the Newars, whose culture and artistry have earned them and international reputation. The Sherpa of the Himalayan are known as tought of mountain clibers, Brahmins and Chetris are scattered over the hills and vallyes. The Magar, Rai, Gurung and Limbus of the mid hills have earned fame as Gurkhas soldiers. Low land ethnic groups such as the Maithali, Bhojpuri, and Tharu, enhance the colorful mosaic. The population of Nepal is about 2.5 millions.
Business Hours
The normal work week is six and a half day for Friday. The office hours for civil services, bank and business organization is from 10 am to 5pm. Industrial workers has a 48 hrs work week and may work in shifts.

Nepal time is 5 hrs 45 minutes ahead of GMT and 15 minutes ahead of Indian Standard Time.

Currency unit
Nepali rupee (NR) is the basic monetary unit in Nepal. It consists of 100 paisa. Brand notes come in
denominations of 1000, 500, 100,50, 25, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 rupee. Exchange rate is approximately US
$1=106.00.
Official Holidays
Saturday is the weekend holidays in Nepal. Most of the government offices and business are closed on Saturdays.
